International stayers Sanagas and Val Champ have arrived in Australia to join new stables and be aimed at the Melbourne Cup.
The two horses are owned by BC3 Thoroughbreds with Sanagas to go to Bart Cummings and Val Champ to Anthony Freedman.
German-bred United States star Sanagas is the winner of seven of 11 starts while Argentinian Val Champ has shown himself to be a stayer of the future,
The pair will complete two weeks post-arrival quarantine at Sydney’s Eastern Creek before joining their new Australian trainers.
Sanagas was a three-length winner of the Group One Hollywood Turf Cup (2400m) last November.
Val Champ, a Group Two winner in whom shares are still available, has passed the ballot for the Melbourne Cup for the next two years and will be aimed at several features during the spring.
“We’re really excited about these two horses who have exceptional talent and are equally delighted to finally get them to Australia,” BC3 Thoroughbreds chief executive Bill Vlahos told Racing Victoria.
“They’ll now have the chance to acclimatise and undertake their entire Cups preparation under the guidance of two great trainers in Bart Cummings and Anthony Freedman.
“Bart in particular was very keen to get Sanagas out here early so we gave him just one run in the US this year over a shorter trip to maintain his fitness base ahead of his spring campaign.”
